Toshi Uchida, MD is the inaugural Associate Dean for Curriculum at The Larner College of Medicine (LCOM) at UVM. In this role, Dean Uchida oversees curriculum development and assessment across all four years of the program, working closely with colleagues in the Office of Medical Education (OME) and the UVM Health Network (UVMHN).
Dean Uchida joined LCOM in 2025 after 17 years at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine where she led the Clinical Medicine Element and was the Medical Director of the Outpatient Simulation Center. Prior to that, Dean Uchida worked at Stroger Hospital of Cook County and co-led the Physical Diagnosis sequence for pre-clerkship students at Rush Medical College.
Dean Uchida has over two decades of experience in undergraduate medical education (UME). She is the former Chair of the UME Section of the Group on Educational Affairs (GEA) of the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC). She has also held a number of positions in the Central Group on Educational Affairs (CGEA) including Membership Chair, Member-at-Large and Program Planning Chair. Dr. Uchida is a national expert in clinical skills education and served as the inaugural Treasurer, and later the President, of the Directors of Clinical Skills Education (DOCS).
Dr. Uchida’s clinical work includes both outpatient primary care and inpatient hospital medicine. She graduated from Harvard Medical School and completed a primary care internal medicine residency at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston.
